Civic Cinema Club

The Civic is going to make a movie! To get ready, we are hosting the Civic Cinema Club to watch and discuss films. Join us in our cozy living room on main street which we will convert into a theater- complete with popcorn candy and beverages. Stay after the film for a discussion.

First in the series is "Beasts of the Southern Wild"

Six-year-old Hushpuppy lives with her father, Wink, in a remote Delta community. Wink is a stern taskmaster, but he is preparing his young daughter for the end of the world. When Wink falls mysteriously ill, nature seems to fall ill with him. Temperatures rise, the ice caps melt, and fearsome prehistoric beasts called aurochs run loose. Rising waters threaten to engulf their community, sending Hushpuppy in search of her long-lost mother.

Beasts of the Southern Wild was nominated for four Academy Awards, including best picture (2013).
