In December of 2024, The Civic Theater Project created a brand new production of “A Christmas Carol” as a present for the community. We studied
the original novella, script adaptations and film versions, and
looked to our own community for inspiration. We put 45 people
into the show because that’s how many signed up to audition.
The reason for telling this particular story – about wealth
inequality, redemption, and the profound effect our actions have
on others – is simple, and in keeping with the mission of the Civic
Theater Project.
If a greedy and money-hoarding old man can radically change his
mind about what and who he values, then any one of us could
potentially be profoundly transformed–by simply paying attention
to the reality of our neighbors’ lives.
There is so much beautiful poetry in this broadly loved story but
maybe the most powerful sentiment, which is uttered repeatedly
by the spirits who visit Scrooge, is just one word: LOOK!
