THE
CIVIC STANDARD

Grand and tiny experiments in
getting together

The Civic Standard is a free supper club, a public living room, and a collaborative art project in Hardwick, Vermont.

We are rooted in and listening to our town, always trying to reflect it back on itself.

Dear friends and supporters,

We started this year in the way most people do: by asking ourselves big questions about how to spend the twelve months ahead. We sat in the living room over the frozen river, and got to work building ways to get people together. There was Hardwick’s inaugural university with classes all over town, a homemade Mother’s Day tea in the park, a summer kickball tournament for all ages—and the happenings now embedded into the life of our town, like trivia nights at the diner, original theater at the Legion, and supper on Main Street every Wednesday. On top of all that, we spent the better part of the year searching for a new home. And we found one, just across the street, with more space for play, invention, and mutual helpfulness.

Days from now, that New Home will be open for all of us to share. We invite your active participation in shaping the Civic’s next chapter. Tell us your dreams and ideas, volunteer to lead a program, or attend a supper. Consider making a gift to our New Home Fund or towards our GenOp and Small Support Funds, each one a vital means toward meeting our community with bread and roses at every turn. With your help, no matter how it arrives, we can continue building a space where unique, meaningful shared experiences are the norm—for everyone.

About

Building a
resilient community

THROUGH SHARED EXPERIENCES

The Civic Standard was born from the idea that people want to gather with their neighbors, both the ones they know and the ones they haven’t met. We believe that the richest cultural experiences are made from the inside-out, and we work with our neighbors to build events that are of interest to all of us. Stop by or reach out. The door is open.
